The 45th edition of FIAC (Foire international d’Art contemporain) opens in Paris today till 21 October at the Grand Palais. This year, out of 195 galleries selected by a jury of gallerists, nine come from Asia. These are Seoul-based Kukje Gallery, Hyundai Gallery and PKM Gallery, Chinese galleries Antenna Space (Shanghai), Magician Space (Beijing), Vitamin Creative Space (Guangzhou, Beijing), Edouard Malingue Gallery (Hong Kong, Shanghai), as well as SCAI THE BATHHOUSE (Tokyo) and Experimenter (Kolkata).

Chinese galleries Antenna Space and Magician Space are new entrants to the fair. Magician Space is presenting three Chinese artists: Li Jinghu, Tan Yongxiang and Wu Hao. “The three artists were born in 1972, 1977, and 1985. Li Jinghu grew up in the late period of the Cultural Revolution of China; Tang Yongxiang grew up in the early stage of development and the opening up; and Wu Hao grew up in the period of great economic growth,” says Gallery Director Qu Kejie. “They perceive everything from daily life through different perspectives, and express their attitudes and attempts of mediating the situation through their works.”

Speaking about the relevance of these artworks to a new audience outside of China, Qu notes, “Our intention is to introduce the wonderful work of the artists to the art lovers here in Paris, because despite the regional difference, the thoughts and discussion of our artists are quite universal - their work can reflect and mediate our behavior and daily life.” The prices of the artworks range from EUR5,000 to EUR20,000.
